How to Become a Nutritionist in Nova Scotia
To become a nutritionist in Nova Scotia, you must meet qualifications set forth by the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, which is the governing body for nutritionists and dieticians. There are fewer than 500 nutritionists and dieticians registered with the NDSA. Nutritionists and dieticians in Nova Scotia counsel individuals on what they should be eating to attain a high level of health and wellness. They can work in schools, at businesses, or for themselves as individual counselors.

1
Attend college and obtain a bachelor's degree in dietetics and nutrition. The school must be accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. A list of programs thus accredited can be found in the Resources section.
-
2
Locate a practical training program that meets your needs. This program must meet competency standards set by the Dietitians of Canada. This program helps you learn to apply the education you gained in college. Programs can be set in hospitals, the food industry, long-term health care facilities, or other places where dietitians are common.

3
Complete the practical training program. The Dietitians of Canada indicate that most programs run between 40 and 45 weeks of full time work. You can also obtain this competency while you're working toward a master's degree in your field.

Successfully complete the exam and receive copies of your scores.
