Instructions

    • 1

Choose your fabric. These trousers are very full and fluffy, so choose a light fabric, like cotton gauze or very thin muslin.

    • 2

Measure the distance from your waist to your ankle and add 3 inches. Make sure you run the measuring tape over the widest point in your body, whether that is your hip or your buttocks.

    • 3

Measure the distance around your waist.

    • 4

Cut two rectangles of fabric, using your waist-to-ankle measurement as the length and the waist measurement as the width.

    • 5

Fold one of the pieces in half along the length. Essentially, you are now looking at one, uncut pant leg.

    • 6

Mark the point that is 13 inches down from the top corner on the cut edges in chalk

    • 7

Mark the point that 6 inches across from the bottom corner of the folded edge in chalk

    • 8

Draw a line between the two points.

    • 9

Cut through both layers of fabric along the line that you have just drawn. You should now have two triangles. The uncut width of the fabric is now the waistband, and the narrower, cut edge is the cuff of one pant leg.

    • 10

Rotate the triangles by 180 degrees so their long narrow points are pointed toward the waistband instead of the cuff.

    • 11

Sew the triangles to the pant leg again.

    • 12

Repeat steps 5 through 11 on the other piece of fabric.

    • 13

Fold one paint leg in half along the length and sew the long loose edges of the triangles together.

    • 14

Repeat step 13 on the other leg. You should now have two complete pant legs..

    • 15

Line the two pant legs up and sew up the crotch. Leave two inches loose at the top of the front so you can put in the drawstring.

    • 16

Hem the cuffs by turning the raw edges up twice and then stitching them flat

    • 17

Create a channel for the drawstring by folding down the waist band down an inch and then sewing it along the edge.

    • 18

Tie a piece of ribbon to a safety pin.

    • 19

Use the safety pin to thread the ribbon through the drawstring channel.

    • 20

Tighten the drawstring and cut off the safety pin. The pants are ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Elastic can be substituted for the drawstring if you prefer.
