How to Upgrade a Dell 5100 Hard Drive

      Power off the computer, unplug it, remove the battery and turn the computer upside down.

      Remove the screw that holds the hard drive into the computer. This screw is located on the underside of the computer, directly next to the audio and microphone ports.

      Slide the hard drive out of the side of the computer and unscrew the drive from the plastic casing in which it is held.

      Screw your replacement hard drive into the plastic casing and slide it back into your computer. Attach it to the computer with the screw you removed previously.

      Replace the battery in your computer, plug it in and turn it on.
