Most people want to keep their computer running safely and efficiently by allowing the fans to cool the internal workings. At times, computers will overheat by accident for a different number of reasons. If you are trying to overheat a computer on purpose, it can be easier than you may think.

      Unscrew the bolts that hold on the side panel of the computer. Remove the panel to expose the inner-workings of the computer.

      Look into the computer and find the cooling fans. Depending on the type of computer, there may be between one and five cooling fans.

      Remove each fan using a screwdriver. Unplug the fan or cut the wires if they are connected to the computer.

      Replace the side panel onto the computer and screw in the bolts tightly.

      Apply four to five strips of duct tape in front of any gaps or creases on the sides, top, bottom and front of the computer. Seal up every inch of the back of the computer, putting multiple layers on top of the fan vent.

      Turn on the computer and leave it on. The heat from the working components inside will continue to become warmer and the temperature will increase. After a while the computer will shut off and be overheated.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never leave the computer unsupervised when purposely overheating it. Fires can start easily from the excessive heat.
