How to Make Clear Plastic Jewelry

How to Make Clear Plastic Jewelry thumbnail
Clear plastic jewelry can be just as beautiful as glass jewelry.

When most people think of plastic jewelry, one word in particular pops into their heads: cheap. Well, to an extent, they are right. Plastic jewelry is less expensive than glass or gems, but sometimes it is also more durable and can take the daily abuse of being worn by a 3-year-old to a 90-year-old. Making jewelry takes a bit of practice to master, but it is a hobby that many people have taken up. You may need to purchase some tools and materials to complete this task, but making jewelry will give you an opportunity to express your creative side.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out a design for your necklace on the bead board. You should organize the beads in the fashion that you want them to appear on your necklace.

    • 2

Put the measuring tape around your neck mimicking how you would like the necklace positioned on your neck. Add two inches to that measurement to allot for tying and crimping. Measure and cut the soft flex wire at the end measurement with the wire cutters.

    • 3

Slide a crimp bead on one end of the necklace with the clasp following it. Stick the short end of the string through the other part of the crimp bead. Squeeze the crimp bead closed with the crimp pliers.

    • 4

String on the clear plastic beads that you have chosen in the order that you have them laid out on the bead board.

    • 5

Attach the clasp at the other end as described in Step 3. Wear the necklace as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a bead or beads that you wish to keep in place on the necklace, employ the use of crimp beads slightly underneath the bead.

  • You can also make bracelets, anklets and crowns with this process. Just remember to enjoy yourself and be creative with your jewelry making, and you will produce beautiful and versatile jewelry.
