How to Place Patches on Girl Scout Uniforms

When Girl Scouts accomplish a task, they receive a patch or a pin as an award. Those patches can be displayed on the Girl Scout’s uniform for their fellow Scouts to see. When placing patches on a Girl Scout uniform, you will have to adhere to the placement rules provided by the organization.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the uniform first to create a clean surface on which to affix the patches.

    • 2

Download the insignia placement guide from GirlScouts.org. The placement guide shows where each patch and insignia should go on a uniform. The placement guide can also be found in the Girl Scouts handbook.

    • 3

Iron the uniform to remove wrinkles, if desired. Place the clean uniform on a flat surface, such as a table.

    • 4

Place each patch on the designated areas, using the placement guide. With a pencil, place a light mark where the patch should go.

    • 5

Use a needle and thread to secure sew-on patches along the edges. You can use a sewing machine if desired.

    • 6

Use an iron to attach an iron-on patch. Iron-on patches have a layer of glue on the back that is activated by heat. Place the patch on the uniform, and gently place the iron on the patch. Iron the patch as you would any other piece of clothing. Keep the iron on the patch for only a few seconds, to ensure that you don’t burn the patch or the uniform.

Use patch adhesive to attach a fun patch. You can purchase fun patch adhesive from GirlScouts.org. Place a very small amount of glue inside the edges of the patch. Place the patch on the uniform, and apply pressure for two to three seconds.

Review the uniform and the placement guide, to make sure every patch is at the right location.
