How to Wire a DSL Splitter

Use the DSL modem with a phone line from the same wall jack using a DSL splitter.

A DSL splitter allows a DSL modem and a phone to connect to the same phone jack on the wall. The DSL splitter is normally provided by the DSL provider, but you can also purchase a splitter at a local electronics store. But to use the phone with the splitter, you need to also use a DSL filter between the phone and the splitter. Using the phone without the DSL splitter results in static on the phone.

Things You'll Need

• DSL modem
• Phone
• DSL filter
• Phone lines (2)

Instructions

1. Plug the DSL splitter into the wall.

2. Connect a phone line from the back of the DSL modem to the DSL splitter.

3. Connect a DSL filter to the other port of the DSL splitter.

4. Connect a phone line between the phone and the DSL filter.
