Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Google Merchant Center website and register for an account. The sign up process will ask for your personal and business contact information, as well as some of your payment requirements, such as tax and shipping specifications.

    • 2

Create a data feed by opening your spreadsheet program. The data feed is what you will use to place items into your Google Merchant account.

    • 3

Type the words "Title," "Description," "Price" and "Link" at the top of the first four rows in your spreadsheet document.

    • 4

For each item you wish to sell, input the item's title, description, and price into the corresponding field. In order to sell the items completely free and without incurring any transaction charges, in the link field(s), include links that can provide the buyer with further information on how to pay you.

    • 5

Save your work as a text file by clicking "Save As" and selecting "Text (*.txt)" from the "Save as type" menu.

    • 6

Go to your Google Merchant account's "Dashboard," select "Data feeds," and then click on "New Data Feed." Fill out the information and enter the name of your spreadsheet in the last field.

    • 7

At the "Data Feeds" page, select "Manual Upload" for the new data feed you just created.

    • 8

Click "Browse" on the resulting pop-up, select your spreadsheet and press "Upload and process this file." Once the file has been uploaded, your products will be available to sell online within the next 24 hours.

Tips & Warnings

  • While it is free to list your products with Google, it will be difficult to get your products exposure without promoting your listings with some advertising.

  • Online consumers are very unlikely to pay for items online by mailing cash or credit card. Thus, it would be smart to opt for Google's checkout functionality, which comes with a small transaction fee but will allow you to accept credit cards.
