Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size you want your headboard to be. Use your tape measure to determine the ideal height and width. Width is usually a little wider than the bed, with height varying according to what function you want the headboard to serve. Write the measurements down on a piece of paper, and take them to your local hardware store to purchase a sheet of plywood matching those dimensions.

Go to your local fabric or craft store and purchase the yards of upholstery fabric. You will need enough fabric to extend across the edges and fold onto the back of the sheet of plywood. Purchase two-inch foam from a craft store as well. The two-inch foam will serve as a cushion between the fabric and plywood.

    • 3

Lay the plywood flat and lay the foam over the top. Use your box cutting knife to cut the foam to the size of the plywood. Use a modest amount of wood glue to apply the foam to the plywood.

    • 4

Drape the fabric over the newly foamed headboard. Pull the edges and corners tight and use your staple gun to staple the fabric to the back of the board. Make sure to thoroughly staple across the back so as to prevent the fabric from coming loose. Once you have finished stapling, your headboard is finished and ready to be mounted to the wall.
