How to Convert RM to AVI for Free
The RM file extension, used for storage of Real Media files, is a movie file format created by RealNetworks. RM files usually are associated with Web videos. When users view the videos online, the RM file is simultaneously downloaded to their computers for later playback. RM can only be viewed in RealPlayer and a few other select programs, so converting the videos into the AVI format, which is more widely compatible, is often a necessity. A few online conversion sites can perform free RM to AVI conversions.

Launch any Internet browser, such as Google Chrome or Apple Safari, and load media-convert.com (see Resources). Click the "Choose File" option and locate the RM file you want to convert into an AVI.

Select "RM" or "Real Media" as your movie input format and choose "AVI" or "Audio Video Interleave" for your output.

Pick the blue "OK" button to begin converting to the AVI format. Once the conversion completes, click the download link to receive your AVI.
