How to Freeze Pomegranates

Pomegranates are a tropical fruit with a short growing season.

Also known as Chinese Apples, pomegranates are in season from October through January. Both the seeds and the flesh of the fruit can be consumed, but not the skin. Due to their short growing season, pomegranates are often frozen by consumers so that they may enjoy them throughout the year in food and beverage recipes as well as a snack. Instructions

Freezing Whole Fruit

  Rinse the fruit under running water and wipe dry with a clean cloth.

  Place the whole fruit into an individual freezer bag. Pat the bag to remove all the air and seal it tightly closed.

  Write the current date on the outside of the bag with a permanent marker. Allow the marker to dry for approximately one minute and place the bag in the freezer.

  Freeze the fruit for up to one year. Before using, defrost thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings

Select pomegranates that are heavy and firm with an even red colored skin.
Pomegranates will keep for up to two months in the refrigerator.
