How to Make a Gyrocopter Out of Paper
A paper gyrocopter is a simple model of a helicopter. This project can be used as an experiment to allow students and other children to apply and evaluate scientific methods such as gravity, air, mass and size. A gyrocopter can be created with simple items lying around your home. With just a few simple steps, you can create an informative science lesson that is fun for all.
Things You'll Need
- Ruler
- Pencil
- One sheet of paper
- Pinking shears or scissors
- One paper clip
- Elevated area or chair
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure a 6 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch strip on your paper with a ruler and mark it with the pencil.
-
2
Cut out the strip using the scissors. Using pinking shears may make your gyrocopter fly a little better, but one cut with scissors will work.
-
-
3
Hold strip lengthwise and measure 3 inches in with your ruler. Make a mark with the pencil. Find the middle by marking the short edge of one end at 3/4 inch.
-
4
Cut a slit from the 3/4-inch mark to the 3-inch mark.
-
5
Fold the two strips down opposite one another. These form the wings of the gyrocopter.
-
6
Attach the paper clip to the bottom of the gyrocopter for weight. Now you're ready to fly.
-
7
Go to an elevated area or stand on a chair and drop the gyrocopter. Watch it spiral to the floor.
