When a permanent marker accidentally remains in a pocket during washing and drying, a marker-stained appliance often results, creating a laundry room disaster. Fortunately, removing permanent ink from the inside of a dryer is one of the least labor-intensive tasks associated with permanent-marker stains. A combination of commercial products and home remedies work to aid you in this task. Coupled with proper cleaning techniques, you can successfully remove the permanent-marker stains before they are transferred to other articles of clothing.
Step 1
Smear a nickel-sized amount of vegetable shortening onto a clean cloth. Rub the shortening onto the permanent-marker stains. The oil-based substance breaks down the marker stains to help remove them from the surface of the dryer.

Wipe off excess shortening with a clean cloth.
Step 3
Dampen another cloth with undiluted rubbing alcohol. Wipe the remaining permanent-marker stains with the alcohol to remove them from the metal surface. As marker stains lift, change to a clean cloth and continue to wipe the inside of the dryer until the stains are gone.
Step 4
Spray all-purpose cleaner inside the dryer and wipe off with a clean cloth. Leave the dryer door open for a few hours to allow chemical residue from the cleaner to evaporate.
