How to Sell Used Games

Sell your unwanted, used video games as a smart way to prevent filling up landfills, clear up clutter around the home and earn some extra money. You can sell your used video game in a variety of ways, from a process as simple as taking it to a store for trade-in to a more complex process like signing up for an online auction site and selling it over the Internet.

Instructions

    • 1

Trade your used video game in at a local video game retailer. Stores such as GameStop regularly buy used video games in exchange for cash, new games or store credit. Note that you may not get very much money back with this route.

    • 2

Sell your used video games on eBay. With eBay you can choose to sell your game as an auction, where prospective buyers will bid on your game for up to a week, or you can give it a fixed "Buy it Now" price. You can also choose to give a "Best Offer" option if you're unsure of the game's worth or don't really care about getting much money for it.

    • 3

Sell your used video games on Amazon. Amazon provides less options than eBay, as you can only sell by fixed price, but you also have the chance of reaching more customers since Amazon prominently displays links to used items for sale.

    • 4

Sell your used video games on Glyde. Glyde offers a streamlined process for selling your used video games. You post your video game, its condition and your asking price. If someone purchases it, Glyde will send you a prepaid box or envelope to ship the game to the buyer. Note that Glyde may take out a higher percentage of the selling price than sites like eBay or Amazon.

    • 5

Sell your used video games at a yard sale or flea market if you have enough to justify having the sale. This takes away the need for shipping and also cuts out the middle-man so you don't have to deal with fees. You could also consider posting ads in your local classifieds or online classifieds such as Craigslist.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will likely receive more money for your used video games if you're able to offer the original manual, box and any applicable accessories (such as the Balance Board for "Wii Fit").

  • Research your game's value before selling it. You can check the completed listings on eBay as a good indicator of value. Click the "Advanced Search" link next to the search bar and tick the "Completed Listings" box.

  • Note that Amazon, eBay and Glyde all fill in the "Item Description" automatically for your game (as long as the information is in the database), meaning you have to do less work in describing and photographing the item.
