How to Remove Oil Stains From Wood Floors
Oil is difficult to remove from fabrics, tile, and wood. The job is easier, however, if you treat the stain immediately after it occurs. Some scrubbing combined with household cleaners will usually do the trick. Oil stains that have been set for a long time on wood floors are much more difficult to remove and can cause long-term damage, so work to remove oil stains quickly. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Newspaper
- Mild dish detergent
- Warm water
- Scrub brush
- Mineral spirits
- Clean cloths

Remove any excess oil on the floor with newspaper. Press the paper into the oil to blot the moisture.

Mix a solution of mild dish detergent and warm water. Pour a thin layer of the mixture onto the oil stain.

Scrub the solution into the oil stain thoroughly, using a scrub brush. Wipe the area with a damp cloth. Wait for the wood to dry. You won't be able to see if the stain is gone until the wood is no longer wet.

Rub mineral spirits onto the stain if the soap mixture did not completely remove the stain. Apply the mineral spirits across the affected wooden area, using a clean cloth.

Try rubbing dry cleaning fluid on the wood floor if the detergent and mineral spirits did not remove the stain.
