How to Repair an Uneven Sidewalk
An uneven sidewalk can be not only be unsightly but also a major safety hazard. A newer construction process called mudjacking is a cleaner and simpler way of fixing sidewalks that are uneven. You can complete this process with some tools purchased or rented from a local hardware or home improvement store, but if your sidewalk requires multiple repairs or has other damage, you may want to consult with a contractor. - Safety goggles
- Safety gloves
- Masonry drill (able to drill hole approximately 1 inch in diameter)
- Grout mixture
- 1 bag concrete
- Grout pump with hose
- Putty knife

Put on your safety goggles and glasses to protect yourself from any dust and debris as you complete this project.

Drill two to three holes in the sidewalk slab that is lower than the other portion of the sidewalk. The two to three holes should be located about 3 inches from the edge of the concrete and should be about 1 inch in diameter. The holes should be spaced out approximately 6 inches from one another. Be sure to drill all the way through the concrete until you hit dirt.

Mix the grout mixture in one container off to the side according to the manufacturer's directions. Also mix the concrete in a separate container and set aside.

Place the hose of the grout pump into a hole in the sidewalk. Begin pumping the grout into the hole so that the sidewalk slab begins to rise. Repeat this process for the other holes until the sidewalk slab is even with the other portion of the sidewalk.

Remove the hose of the grout pump, and fill each of the holes with concrete using your putty knife. Even out the top as much as possible so it is even with the rest of the cement sidewalk.
