Draw a manga maid.

Manga is a popular form of comic art whose Far East roots are at least 200 hundreds years old. Features of modern manga art include characters with slender bodies and oversized, glistening eyes. Though associated with comic art for children, manga art is produced for audiences of all ages and literary interests. It's therefore not unusual to see manga characters ranging from blue-collar workers to intergalactic despots. Among this pool of characters, manga aficionados can find many examples of manga maids.

Instructions

    • 1

Surf to a site that has an online drawing applet, such as Imagination Cubed, Billy Bear 4 Kids or Online Sketchpad and follow the instructions to prepare to draw.

    • 2

Begin drawing the maid's bodice: Draw a rectangle whose height is slightly longer than its width. Shade the bodice black, and add two U's, one atop the other, at the top center of the bodice. This is the collar. Leave it white.

    • 3

Make the skirt: Draw lines that arc slightly as they go from the bottom edges of the bodice away and down from the bodice. Draw the skirt's bottom as two curves that bow slightly upward.

    • 4

Complete the skirt by drawing a fringed U shape at its top (for the apron), and a line circling the skirt near the skirt bottom (for the lace fringe). Shade the skirt a dark color, except for the apron and fringe. Leave those white or clear.

    • 5

Draw the legs as two slender, tapering rectangles with lengths equal to the torso-to-skirt bottom length.

    • 6

Form the shoes: At the bottom quarter of the legs, draw the kind of four sided diamond seen on playing cards, except leave the tops open, and make the top edges much longer compared to the bottom two edges. From the diamond's bottom edges down, fill the diamond with black.

    • 7

Form the arms: Extend two pairs of parallel curves from the bodice's left and right, down to the skirt bottom.

    • 8

Complete the outfit by shading a small portion near the arm tops to make the sleeves.

    • 9

Draw the head as a large oval that sits atop the bodice. Create eyes by drawing overly large ovals whose tops are at the vertical center of the face.

    • 10

Form the nose with a tiny vertical line at the center of the face oval.

    • 11

Form the mouth with a tiny V centered horizontally on the face oval.

    • 12

Complete the maid by adding a "V" shape on the forehead for a widow's peak, and forming the hair: Draw a cloud of overlapping, open ovals surrounding the top half of the face oval's outline.
