How to Fix a Water Spill on a Laptop

One of the worst events that could happen to a laptop owner is a water spill on their machine. If this is you, the key to saving your computer is do not fret and act quickly. Also, keep in mind that electricity and water is an extremely dangerous mix, so your first step is to remove the electricity from the situation.

Instructions

1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it from its power source.

2. Take the power cord out of the computer. Be careful and quick during this step since there may still an electrical current from the battery.

3. Take the battery out of the laptop.

4. Put a clean towel out top of the laptop if the spill came from above it. Put the towel underneath the laptop if the spill came from the side, like across the table.

5. Close the laptop and turn the laptop over onto its back. This way the water will run onto the towel. If the water came from the side or the bottom, do not do this.

6. Wait until you feel the water has dried or flowed into the towel. Do not plug the laptop in or turn it on if it has any moisture on or in it.
