How to Copy DVDs to Windows Media Player

DVD movies can be "ripped" from the disc to your computer if you want to watch the movie on your computer instead of an external DVD player. You can then add this new movie file to your Windows Media Player library in order to watch it there. In order to do this, you'll need a DVD Ripper program, since Windows Media Player can't normally do this.

Instructions

1. Download and install some DVD Ripper software such as AOA, Xilisoft or Format Factory (see "Resources" for link).

2. Open a program like Format Factory, for example. Click on the "DVD" tab and select "DVD to Video." Select the Video format you'd like to have, and then click "Convert." WMV is a good choice for format if you aren't sure.

3. Open Windows Media Player through the "Start" menu. Click on the "Library" tab. A drop-down menu appears.

4. Select "Add to library." Click the "Add" button. A "Browse" window appears. Look through the window and double-click on the file you just ripped off of the DVD. This will add it to your library.
