1
Cleanse your hands completely with plenty of warm, running water for 20 to 30 seconds. Make sure to work up a good lather and get between the fingers and under the fingernails where germs can collect. Use a germicidal or antimicrobial soap.
-
2
Cleanse the piercing while you are in the shower using antimicrobial soap. Dispense approximately 1/4 tsp. of the soap into your hand and add some water to work up a lather. Gently cleanse the navel area and the jewelry for up to 30 seconds. Leaving the soap on the area longer could cause irritation. If you wish to rotate the jewelry, do so only while you are cleaning it.

Rinse the navel area and the jewelry thoroughly making sure to remove all traces of the soap. After showering, thoroughly dry the area with a soft facial tissue. Avoid using a towel because they can catch on the piercing and also harbor germs.
-
4
Dress in clothing that will not rub against or cause friction on the navel area. If it is necessary to wear tight fitting garments such as pantyhose, a rigid, ventilated, protective eye patch can be taped over the area to protect it. Avoid touching or playing with the area or the jewelry and refrain from hanging charms from the jewelry until it is completely healed.
