How to Clean a Muddy Leather Vest

Wait for the mud to dry on the vest before attempting to clean it. Wipe the dry mud off with a soft cloth.

Dampen a clean cloth with water, and wipe off the mud. Rinse the cloth, and clean the vest with the damp cloth until all traces of the mud are gone.

Use mild hand soap if mud still remains on the leather. Apply a small amount of soap in the palm of your hand, and make a lather with warm water.

Rub the lather gently onto the leather, and wipe with a clean cloth.

Clean the soap off the leather with a damp clean cloth.

Wait for the leather to dry naturally, and apply a conditioner to the leather, or rub olive oil into the cleaned leather. Use olive oil sparingly; apply a small amount to a dry cloth, and rub into the leather.

Remove excess oil with a dry cloth.

Test an inconspicuous area before applying leather conditioner or olive oil to the washed leather, which will give you an idea of how much to apply.
