1
Decide what sort of look you want for your army costume, such as a battle-ready soldier, a "sexy" soldier, or a Hollywood action-hero look. Use a battle dress uniform or make or purchase a military-uniform costume, and customize to fit any of these looks.
-
2
Real combat boots, or boots that look like combat boots help create the look of a battle-ready soldier. Tuck pants into boots and tie. High-heeled boots can be worn to create a "sexy soldier" look.

3
Cut tears into the uniform of a battle-ready soldier to look like you've been in a battle. Cut pants into shorts if you're going for the sexy-soldier look. If you want a traditional look then don't modify the pants at all.
-
4
For an authentic look leave jacket sleeves buttoned, or roll the sleeves to just above the elbow. For a sexy or Hollywood look, cut the sleeves off entirely. (If you cut off the pants, it's almost required that you cut off the jacket as well.) Wear a brown tee shirt with any of the looks, and remove those sleeves if you want.

5
Add accessories. For a traditional costume, add symbols of rank and a uniform hat. For a Hollywood look, add in a set of beaten dog tags, a large plastic fake knife and wear camouflage makeup.
