How to Reduce the uTorrent Bandwidth

The computer program uTorrent allows users to share files with one another over an Internet connection. In uTorrent terms, the term "bandwidth" refers to exactly how much of your existing Internet connection uTorrent is set up to use. If you want to reduce the amount of connection bandwidth that uTorrent can take advantage of, you'll have to open uTorrent and adjust the settings of the files that you're trying to share.

Instructions

1. Open uTorrent.

2. Click on the "Options" menu.

3. Select the "Preferences" option.

4. Select the "Bandwidth" option from the "Preferences" menu.

5. Adjust the numerical values listed next to the "Maximum Upload Rate" and "Maximum Download Rate" options. These options control uTorrent's bandwidth settings. If a "0" is in either of these boxes, that means uTorrent is set to use as much of your Internet connection's bandwidth as it possibly can. Whatever number you enter, keep in mind that uTorrent measures these values in kilobytes per second. If you want to significantly lower the amount of bandwidth uTorrent can use, put a low number like "50" into both of these boxes. Once you're finished, select "OK" to reduce uTorrent's bandwidth based on your new settings.
