Play challenging NES games on your PSP.

It's easy to play games, music and videos on the Sony PSP. But other possibilities are also available. With a little ingenuity, clever home PSP enthusiasts have developed software so that the console can also run emulated versions of consoles such as Nintendo's NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). The software and many ROM images (data from NES game cartridges) are freely available online and can be used by any PSP owner whose console is running firmware version 1.50.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Download NesterJ, the most popular and best-supported NES emulator for PSP. Unzip the file to your desktop.

    • 2

Open the unzipped file and go to the folder "1.5." Select both folders within this directory and right-click, then click "Copy."

    • 3

Connect your PSP to your computer using the USB cable. Turn on the PSP and navigate to the "System" tab of the menu, then choose "USB Connection."

    • 4

Open "My Computer" or "Finder" and enter your PSP's root directory. It will be called "Removable Drive," "PSP" or "Memory Stick."

    • 5

Double-click the folder "PSP," then within this folder, enter the sub-directory "Game."

    • 6

Right-click and select "Paste" to add your NES emulator folders to the PSP's memory.

    • 7

Add game ROM files to the folder "NesterJ." If you do not have any ROM files for the NES, visit the site in the "Resources" section.

    • 8

Eject and remove your PSP and disconnect the USB cable. Reset the console and navigate to the "Game" tab of the menu to launch NesterJ.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some NES ROM files are protected by the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) and are illegal to download or run if you do not own the original game cartridge. Only download ROM files from sites that are compliant with ESA protection. To check whether a site is ESA compliant, visit the "Policy" or "Contact Us" sections of the site.
