How to Ping a Computer Port

A computer port is a location in the firewall that acts as a “window,” enabling data to come into the computer when open and preventing it from doing so when closed. Pinging a port refers to the process of sending a small amount of data to the port to test whether it is responsive to your requests. This can be done from the DOS command shell in your Windows OS.
