How to Run a Basketball Offense: Sideline Inbound

When it comes to inbounding from the sideline, execute this stacking pattern for good results.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketballs
  • Basketballs
  1. Step 1

    Put the off guard behind the sideline as inbounder.

  2. Step 2

    Stack players facing the ball handler, about 10 feet off the sideline, one behind the other: first forward, center, second forward, point guard.

  3. Step 3

    Have the off guard tap the ball to signal the beginning of play.

  4. Step 4

    Break the first forward toward the corner about 10 feet.

  5. Step 5

    Move the center into deep court along the foul line.

  6. Step 6

    Retreat with the second forward toward the opposite sideline.

  7. Step 7

    Move the point guard in toward the ball handler and along the half-court line, stopping about 10 feet from the sideline.

  8. Step 8

    Inbound to the point guard.

Tips & Warnings
  • The point guard should receive the ball and retreat to the point, having a play set for execution.
  • If the point guard is defended too well, inbound to the forward in the nearest corner.
  • The center will be well-guarded. Inbound to him or her only as a last resort.
