How to Make a Harness for a Toddler With Instructions
Anyone who has ever had a toddler knows how much energy they have. It can often be difficult to control a toddler who only knows how to run and not walk. Toddler harnesses are a great way to have control of your child, especially in crowded and new areas. Making your own toddler harness is an inexpensive, easy way to be able to relax with your child in any situation.
Things You'll Need
- Two squares of fabric, at least 7" x 7"
- Needle and thread
- One yard of fabric
- Hook and latch
- Measuring tape

1
Sew the two squares of fabric together, with outsides facing each other. You will sew 3 sides together, then turn the fabric inside out before sewing the 4th side. The resulting square of fabric will go across your toddler's chest.

2
Measure from the side of your toddler to the center of his or her back. Then add a couple of inches to this length. Cut two strips of this length out of the yard of fabric.

3
Sew the ends of your strips of fabric to the square. One strip of fabric will be attached to each side of the square that you sewed earlier. On the opposite ends of your strip, attach the hook and latch pieces.

4
Tie the strips of fabric together around your toddler's waist. Measure from the top of your square of fabric to the strips that are tied around the waist. Add a few inches to this measurement. Cut out two strips of this length from the additional fabric you have.

5
Sew each strip to the square. One will be attached to each side of the top of the square and then be placed over the shoulder and attached to the waist strips with a latch and hook.
-
6
Sew a strip of fabric of your desired length to the back of the harness. You can also make a loop out of the opposite end if you would like a loop to place around your wrist.
