how to become an insurance broker in ohio

The state of Ohio issues several types of licenses for insurance brokers. Ohio imposes separate requirements for each specialized license. Applicants for an Ohio insurance license need to determine and complete the educational and testing requirements for each line of license. The state also requires a criminal background check before granting a license to an insurance agent. Applicants who complete all requirements can contract with insurance companies to sell insurance products to Ohio residents.

Complete insurance educational requirements. Applicants seeking to become an Ohio insurance broker in any of the following lines must complete an approved 20-hour insurance course: life/variable products, accident and health, property, casualty, personal lines and surety bail bonds. Ohio title agents do not have to complete a course. Use Ohio's list of approved classroom course providers to contact and select a provider. Alternatively, you may select from a list of self-study programs.
