Choose a ribbon that coordinates with the rest of your holiday decorations. Most colors for Christmas are interchangeable. In some cases a home will go with all gold or all silver in terms of metallic accents, so be sure to choose a color or pattern that coordinates with the immediate decorations around the ribbon. If you are decorating a very large tree, be sure to buy two rolls of ribbon to ensure you have enough.

Start at the top of the Christmas tree. Once your Christmas tree is positioned where it will stay for the holiday season, start at the top back of the tree. Place a ribbon so it is lying against the tree and begin wrapping so there are tiers of ribbon trailing down the tree.

Wrap the tree with ribbon. Depending on the circumference of the tree, once a tier is completed, you may have to go to the other side to retrieve the ribbon and continue wrapping. Do this until the tree is covered, allowing four to six inches between tiers of ribbon.

Add contrasting ribbon. For a more elaborate look, choose a contrasting ribbon in a smaller width and run it between the tiers you've already created, using the same method.

Tips & Warnings
For ribbon that will easily drape on a Christmas tree, choose a ribbon with wire so it is pliable and wraps around the tree with ease.
