You can't access Comcast's cable Internet network without a cable modem. However, in the event that you need to move the modem to another computer, or if you have purchased a new computer that replaces a previous one, you will need to set up your cable modem with the other computer to continue to access the Internet.

Instructions

      Turn off the computer and the cable modem attached to it.

      Remove the USB cable connecting the computer to the modem from the computer end of the connection.

      Connect the end of the USB cable you just removed from the old computer to the new computer's Ethernet port.

      Turn on your new computer. Open a Web browser and click the link on the website that appears to download the Comcast installation software to your computer.

      Run the software, following the on-screen instructions to install and connect your new computer.
