How to Clean Dog Dandruff
Your dog doesn't get bathed as often as you do. As a result, its dandruff is much more noticeable than yours. The culprit for dandruff in dogs is the same as it is in humans; dead skin cells. These dead cells build up on the skin over time and flake off into dandruff. The fact that dogs are prone to scratching only intensifies the problem. If pet grooming is a priority for you, dandruff needs to be dealt with.

Groom your pet's coat thoroughly with a brush intended for use on dogs. Different types of brushes are available for short coats and long coats. Try to comb in the direction the hair grows to remove loose dandruff flakes from the hair.

Use lukewarm water to wet the hair completely. People don't like to bathe in very hot or very cold water, and neither do animals.

Apply moisturizing shampoo to the coat, and work it in until it produces a thick lather. Rinse with warm water until no suds remain.

Apply moisturizing conditioner to the coat and massage it in thoroughly. Wait at least five minutes before rinsing with warm water. In addition to helping reduce dandruff, the conditioner will soothe irritated skin and add a nice shine to the coat.

Use tea tree oil spray on your dog's coat regularly if the dandruff is severe. Rub it deeply into the skin for extra conditioning.

Tips & Warnings
It's a good idea to bathe your dog using moisturizing shampoo and conditioner at least once a month and to brush your dog every day. Regular bathing and brushing is the best way to combat dandruff.
If your dog has dandruff as a result of scratching excessively, you should check to see if fleas or mites are present. Make sure your pet is free of any infestations before taking any action.
