      Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the Mozilla website (see Resources).

      Click "Download Firefox" and follow the steps to install the application.

      Open Firefox and check the box that prompts you to make it the default browser.

      Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs."

      Select Internet Explorer and choose "Uninstall."

      Restart your computer after Internet Explorer uninstalls.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can only uninstall Internet Explorer 7 in Windows XP. Windows Vista prohibits users from uninstalling it and Windows 7 comes with Internet Explorer 8 standard.

  • Be sure to download and install Firefox before uninstalling Internet Explorer, otherwise you will have to install Firefox from an external source (i.e., flash drive, etc).
