How to Make Native American Hair Ties with Beads
If you're looking to jazz up your hairstyles, think about doing Native American hair ties in your hair (also known as Mexican hair ties). The different threads add a lot of color and fun to your 'do. With the thread being "sewn" into your hair, the hair tie can last a long time. Add some beads onto the end of your hair tie for even more color. Although it may take a while to complete (about two hours), friends will love your fun look.
Things You'll Need

1
Position a mirror in front of you so you can clearly see yourself. Tie the threads that you will be using together into a knot.
-
2
Gather a small area of hair together. Secure the top of the tiny ponytail with a small hair tie as well as the bottom.
-
-
3
Slide the knots of the threads under the top hair tie.
-
4
Start with the first color (to avoid confusion, the different threads will be referred to as Colors 1, 2 and 3). Pull Color 1 to a 45-degree angle away from your hair and Colors 2 and 3. Hold the middle of Color 1 steady with your non-dominant hand. With your dominant hand, fold the rest of Color 1 across your hair and the other Colors. Color 1 will look like the number four as it crosses over your hair and the other Colors.
-
5
Loop Color 1 around the back of your tiny ponytail and the other Colors. Pull Color 1 through the middle of the loop.
-
6
Pull Color 1 to tighten. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 12 times with Color 1.
-
7
Repeat Steps 4, 5 and 6 with both Color 2 and Color 3. You will want the hair tie to extend past the bottom of your ponytail.
-
8
Tie the ends of the Colors into a small knot when you've reached a desired length for the ties. Slide beads onto the end of the Colors--you can use as many beads as you like. Tie the end of the Colors into a double knot so the beads stay in place. Cut any excess threads off.
