How to Use Eyelets to Attach Vellum

Attach vellum to paper using eyelets.

Vellum is a translucent paper that is often used in scrapbooking and craft projects. Vellum can be colored or patterned to match a variety of tastes. Since vellum is transparent, when it is adhered to a scrapbook page using glue, the glue shows through the vellum. To avoid unsightly glue marks, attach your vellum to scrapbook pages using eyelets. Eyelets and eyelet tools are easily accessible at craft stores or scrapbook stores.

Things You'll Need

• Vellum
• Scrapbook paper
• Cutting mat
• Eyelet hole punch
• Hammer
• Eyelet
• Eyelet setter

Instructions

1. Place the vellum and scrapbook paper that you would like to attach onto a cutting mat. The cutting mat will protect the surface that you are working on from dings.

2. Align the eyelet hole punch over the area where you would like the eyelet on the vellum. Use the hammer to insert the punch through the paper. Repeat on the area of scrapbook paper where you would like to attach the vellum.

3. Align the hole in the vellum with the hole in the scrapbook paper.

4. Place the eyelet through the vellum and scrapbook paper, ensuring that the smooth part of the eyelet is on the front of the paper. Turn the papers upside down so that the protruding eyelet is accessible.

5. Insert the eyelet setter into the protruding part of the eyelet. Tap on the eyelet setter with your hammer several times until the eyelet collapses and becomes flat.

6. Remove the eyelet setter and tap on the flattened eyelet lightly with the hammer to flatten further.

7. Decorate the attached papers to complete your project.

Tips & Warnings

• Instead of creating two separate holes on the scrapbook paper and vellum, you can align the vellum over the scrapbook paper and create one hole through both sheets. This method may not produce a clean hole.
