How to Make Deer Hamburger Meat

How to Make Deer Hamburger Meat thumbnail
Deer meat can be used instead of beef to make hamburgers.

As deer hunting season comes and goes each year, many hunters may be left wondering just what to do with all the meat they bring home. One option is to create "deerbugers," hamburgers made with primarily deer meat instead of beef. Venison itself is a very lean meat, and does not contain a lot of fat content; this can mean that deer burgers can have less flavor than traditional hamburgers. Mix deer meat with some beef to add flavor to your deer hamburgers. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two lbs. of venison and one lb. of beef into cubes about the size of a quarter. You can either mix the two meats together or keep them in separate containers.

    • 2

Feed the cubes of meat through a meat grinder to create ground meat. Alternate beef and deer cubes so that the meats mix together effectively. If necessary, pass the meat through the grinder twice to achieve your desired ground consistency.

    • 3

Place all of the meat into a large mixing bowl. Mix in one cup of breadcrumbs; the breadcrumbs will help to hold the meat together when you form burger patties. Mix all of the meat and breadcrumbs thoroughly with your hands.

    • 4

Form the meat into patties. The size of the patties will vary depending on your burger preference. Cook immediately, or wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to use them. If it will be more than three days before you cook the burgers, freeze them instead.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add more ingredients, such as garlic, steak sauce and onion powder to enhance the flavor of your burgers.
