How to Replace the Battery in a Door Lock Key for a Volkswagen
For years people did not have the luxury of unlocking their car doors from a distance. The nuisance of having to insert the key then turn it, just to get into your car, can be a hassle. Automatic door lock keys are one of the most convenient features of Volkswagen automobiles. With a simple press of a button, you can lock or unlock every door of your car and in some cases even pop the trunk or hatch. Although it can be a major inconvenience if the battery in the key dies, it is moderately easy to replace.

Note the crease on the logo side of the key. Grab the key with two hands and pull the key into two parts.

Take the piece of the key with the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons and pry it open with a flat head screwdriver. This part of the key will divide into two parts

Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one.

Snap the two halves back together covering the battery. Slide the two pieces of the key together.

Test each button on the key to make sure the battery works.
