How to Hook HDTV to a Satellite Receiver
High definition televisions (HDTV) have many different connection inputs, allowing you to attach multiple audio/video devices at the same time. This includes a satellite receiver, if you subscribe to a satellite service to obtain television programming. However, depending on whether or not you have HD service, the connection process is going to be slightly different.

HD receiver

Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your HD satellite receiver.

Connect the opposite end of the cable into one of the HDMI ports on your television.

Power on the HD satellite receiver and the HD television. Press the "Input" button on the television's remote control and select "HDMI." The satellite programming appears on the TV screen.
SD satellite receiver

Plug the red, green and blue component cables into the "Component Out" video ports on the back of the satellite receiver. Make sure the colors of the cables match the colors of the video ports.

Insert the opposite ends of the cables into the "Component In" ports on the rear of the television.

Attach the red and white RCA audio ports into the "Audio Out" connection on the back of your satellite receiver, then connect the opposite ends of the cables into the "Audio In" ports on your HDTV.

Power on the television and the satellite receiver, then press the "Input" button on the HDTV and select "Component" as the video connection. Your satellite programming now appears on the screen.
