How to Get My W2 Forms From My Employer Online

Forms W-2 are available online through some companies' human resources, accounting or administrative departments. In some instances, you will be asked by a company to sign a release of electronic formation once you start working. You will be given an option to receive electronic pay stubs, automatic deposit of wages and an electronic Form W-2. In some cases, your employer will send your pay stubs via email attachment or link.
If your company makes Forms W-2 available electronically, you should receive an email explaining how to retrieve your Form W-2.

Open the email from your employer and follow the instructions provided. If you agreed to receive pay stubs electronically at the time you were hired, you probably agreed to receive your tax information the same way. The email from your employer will contain a link to a "backdoor" portal into the company’s database where you’ll find a PDF of your Form W-2. You may need to enter more identifying information once reaching this portal before you can access your W-2. Often these links are temporary.

Access your Form W-2 from a secondary service. If your company partners with an affiliate service, you can open an account there. These accounts are usually free and require only your tax identification number or a security code that you set up at anytime to access your Form W-2 information. Log into your account and access your form, download it to your computer or print it out for safekeeping. Often these companies will hold your W-2 information for a limited time. Access your tax information as soon as possible after year's end.

Download your Form W-2 from an attached PDF. Perhaps during the year you have received emails containing attachments of your pay stubs. The email regarding your Form W-2 may require more secure verification, however, before you receive an actual attachment. The first email from your employer regarding your W-2 may ask you to reply with verifying information. Following your reply you will receive a second email with the PDF version of your Form W-2. Save that PDF to your computer or print it out for safe keeping.
