DSL stands for digital subscriber line, according to Indiana University's Information Technology Services website. DSL is a high speed Internet service that uses the existing telephone lines and DSL modems to send information faster than a dial-up modem. A DSL connection will affect every phone line connected to it, including the fax machine's phone jack. Unless filters are installed between your phone line and the fax machine, you will not be able to use it.
