How to Get Rid of Ringworm Spores in Your Yard
Ringworm is a contagious skin condition caused by fungus. While ringworm can be contracted from places such as gyms, animals and pets are common carriers and can contract the fungus from ringworm spores in yards. It is important to treat yards for ringworm spores if you know the fungus is present. A combination of fungicidal treatment and prevention methods is necessary to eradicate the spores. Things You'll Need
- Lawn mower
- Baking powder
- Water
- Spray bottle
- Fungicide
- Spreader or water hose sprayer
- Mulch
- Fertilizer with sulphur

Treat the Fungus

Mow the lawn to a height of no more than 3 inches. Fungus thrives on moisture and humidity, so keep the lawn short to allow more sunlight into the ground.

Mix baking powder and water. Using a spray bottle, cover the area with the mixture. The baking powder will help draw moisture out of the fungus. If you do not have baking powder, use plain cornmeal without water, and spread it over the infected area.

Apply a fungicide that kills ringworm spores if the condition persists. If you have pets, make sure the fungicide is pet-friendly. Apply granule fungicides with a spreader, and liquid fungicides with a water hose sprayer. Reapply as necessary.

Irrigate the land to disperse water and prevent it from pooling. Areas of grass or soil prone to accumulating large amounts of water when it rains or the lawn is watered are breeding grounds for ringworm spores.

Water your lawn early in the morning to allow any excess water to evaporate during the day before fungus has a chance to grow. Try to water only on days when the temperature is warm and the sun is shining.

Aerate the soil each year and lay down mulch where possible. When you apply fertilizer in the spring and fall, use a fertilizer with sulphur, as it acts as a natural fungicide.
