How to Make a Simple Battle Robot
Since the time of Leonardo da Vinci, people have been fascinated with constructing machines of war, the most terrifying of which is the robot. Autonomous, able to move on its own without a human master overseeing it, robots represent the deepest desire of many inventors: bringing a creation to a life of its own.
In modern times, the availability of electronics and other robotics materials means you can build a simple, entertaining battle robot in a matter of minutes.
Things You'll Need
- Remote-control car with removable cover
- 12-volt DC motor with detachable wheel
- Utility knife replacement blades
- Maximum-strength epoxy
- Insulated copper wire
- Electrical tape
- 12-volt battery pack and batteries
- Single-pole, single-throw switch
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the aesthetic cover of the remote-control car and set it aside.
-
2
Mount the motor to the front of the car with its mounting hardware and detach the wheel.
-
-
3
Epoxy the utility knife blades around the topmost outer edge of the wheel, with the sharp edges facing outward. Reattach the wheel to the motor and allow the epoxy to dry.
-
4
Attach a length of copper wire to each of the power inputs for the motor, long enough to reach beyond the range of the spinning blades, and tape them down.
-
5
Attach the battery pack to the top of the remote control car's base with electrical tape, and attach the positive copper wire to the positive power output of the battery pack.
-
6
Connect the negative wire from the motor to the "On" positive of the switch, and connect the power negative power output from the battery pack to the "Off" position.
-
7
Insert the batteries into the pack and flip the switch. The motor should begin turning, making your robot deadly to anything of similar size in front of it.
