How to Convert MPG Videos to Play on a DVD Player
Many ways exist to download video, audio, pictures and other things like MPG files from the Internet, but watching video on a laptop is a drag. So you'll have to put them on a disc. There's two types of ways to put files on disc; one that will simply allow you to store data on the disc for use on other computers, and another that will make it playable on a DVD player.
Things You'll Need
- Digital Video software, such as Sonic or Roxio
- DVD-R
- Installed DVD burner on your computer

1
Insert your DVD-R into your DVD burner. If you have a desktop, this will be located on the front of it. If it's a laptop, look on the sides for your drive, though they are occasionally on the front as well. Allow a couple of minutes for it to be formatted.

2
Open your movie making software, and choose to create a new DVD. Do this by locating the icon for your software, i.e. your Roxio icon, then double-clicking it. While all software varies, generally once you open the software, a main menu will appear giving you several options. Choose the one that will allow you to create a new DVD, or perhaps a DVD movie.

3
Add your MPG file to your project. This will vary based on the software, but there is usually an "Import" or "Add" button on the screen. Locate your MPG file on your drive and bring it in.

4
Burn the disc. Again, while the method for how to do so varies by software, there is usually a "Burn" or "Finalize" button. Allow the software to complete; you will know it is done when the software says "Complete," and usually your disc drive will pop open. The process will vary wildly based on how big your MPG file is, how fast your computer is and the speed of your burner. Expect it to take somewhere between 20 and 40 minutes in general.
