How to Fix Color Problem With Grout
Grout is an integral part of any tile installation. Since the color of the grout can effect the look of the tile, it's important to get the color of the grout correct. Many things can harm the color of grout, such as staining over time, too much water during installation, improper mixing and improper drying. If digging out and replacing the grout is too much of a challenge, the grout color can be changed after it is dry by painting it. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Tile cleaners
- Grout dye or paint
- Small paintbrush
- Impregnating sealer
- Foam paintbrush
- Lint-free cloth

Clean the grout well. Use a cleanser that kills and removes mildew as well as any soap scum that may be on the grout. Allow it to dry thoroughly.

Apply the grout dye to the grout lines with a small paintbrush. Start at the top of a joint, work downward to avoid drips, and paint with small, careful strokes. Check to make sure your coverage is completely even and you aren't missing any areas.

Allow the grout dye to dry completely, then seal the grout joints against further discoloration. Paint the joints with an impregnating sealer using a foam paint brush, and wipe up the excess with a lint-free cloth.
