Your Chosen Weapon to Fight Scratches

One of the prime advantages of disc media over older game cartridges is increased space for game information. However, the main disadvantage is that users can inadvertently scratch the discs. Playstation 2 game discs are no exception. Fortunately for gamers, toothpaste is all you need to remove these troublesome marks. The gritty nature of toothpaste evens out the deep scratches that prevent your console from reading the disc.

Things You'll Need

  • Non-gel toothpaste
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Warm water

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse off your disc to remove any fingerprints or dust. Dry your disc with the lint-free cloth.

    • 2

Take a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, and apply in a thin layer to the scratches.

    • 3

Buff the scratch with gentle, circular motions, using your finger. Alternatively, you can apply a larger amount of toothpaste to the entire disc and wipe outward starting from the center.

    • 4

Wash off the toothpaste with warm water, using your fingertips. Do not apply too much pressure during this step--just enough to remove the paste.

    • 5

Dry the disc with a dry portion of the lint-free cloth. Test your disc, and repeat as necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • This remedy will need to be repeated often, so it is a good idea to copy your game to another disc while you have it working.

  • Do not push too hard on the disc while scrubbing with toothpaste. Doing so will wear away too much of the plastic, potentially causing greater problems than before.
