How to Make a Fleece Two-Point Jester Hat
Fleece is a warm, versatile fabric, perfect for constructing hats. The two-point jester hat featured here is simple enough even for beginning sewers and is easily customized to color and length. Additionally, while the measurements listed here will make hats that should fit most adults, simply measure the head circumference of the intended recipient of the hat and divide it by four, then add 1/2 inch, to personalize the size.
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Paper
- Fabric pen
- Scissors
- 1/2 yard of fleece (total) in 2 or more colors
- Straight pins
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- 2 pom-poms or bells (optional)

Draw a rectangle on a piece of paper, 6 inches wide and 13 inches tall. At the top of the rectangle, draw a horn shape to form the floppy jester point. Cut out the entire shape.

Use the paper pattern you created in Step 1 to measure and cut 4 pieces of fleece of the same size and shape.

Pin two panels of alternate colors together, with the right sides facing. Sew along the straight side (below the point of the hat) to create a 1/2 inch seam. Repeat this process with the other two fleece panels. At this point, you will have two horn shapes, each sewn only on the outer side.

Pin the two front panels of your horn shapes together, with the right sides facing. Sew a 1/2 inch seam until you reach where the top curves begin. Repeat this step for the back panels.

Sew a 1/2 inch seam on the top curves of each of your horn shapes, to close the top of the hat.

Fold the bottom edge of the hat up 1 inch and sew a 1/2 inch hem.

Trim the seams and turn the hat right side out. Stitch pom-poms or bells to the jester points, if desired.
