How to Decoupage With Pressed Flowers

How to Decoupage With Pressed Flowers thumbnail
Pressed flowers can make any decoupage project prettier.

Decoupage is the art of applying a glue-like substance over an object to add paper, pictures or flowers over that object. In some cases the objects are also covered with tissue paper, but if you prefer to leave the original look of the object then you can skip that step and just apply the flowers. Almost any object can be decoupaged, including metal, wood, glass and plastic. Decoupage is a simple project that children and adults can do together.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay newspaper down on your work table. Rip the tissue paper into 1-inch pieces. The pieces do not have to be even. Place the pieces into a bowel or other container and set aside. Place the pressed flowers within reach. Wash the object that you want to cover to remove any dirt or oil.

    • 2

Apply decoupage solution over a section of the object to which you want to add the pressed flowers. You do not want to cover the entire object at once, because it will dry before you can press the tissue paper and flowers over it. Do not apply the solution to the bottom of the object or it will stick to the table surface.

    • 3

Stick the tissue paper pieces over the decoupage solution. Overlap the pieces. If the pieces will not stick to one another, dip the paint brush into the decoupage solution and dab a small amount on the tissue paper so that it will stick to the other paper pieces. Continue working in small sections until the entire object is covered in paper. Add another layer of decoupage solution over the entire surface of the object.

    • 4

Press the pressed flowers over the object. Make sure to place them exactly where you want them, because they will be nearly impossible to remove and reposition. Apply another layer of decoupage over the entire container when you are finished pressing the flowers into place.

    • 5

Set the decoupaged object in a safe place to dry. Allow the object to dry for 24 hours before use. Do not allow children or pets to touch the object while it is still wet. Brushes can be rinsed with soap and warm water to remove the decoupage solution.
