How to Troubleshoot the PlayStation 2 USB
The USB ports on any PlayStation 2 console are used to connect peripherals to the console like headsets, microphones and other devices that require a USB connection. If you notice you're having issues with the USB ports on your PlayStation 2, try some simple troubleshooting tricks to make sure your game console doesn't need to be sent in for repair.
Instructions

-
1
Power off your PlayStation 2 and remove all USB devices from your PS2's USB ports.
-
2
Look into the USB ports for any obstructions, dust or damage. If you see physical damage like cracking or bent connection points, your PlayStation 2 will need repairs.
-
-
3
Spray the USB ports using compressed air to clear any dust or debris. Then try the USB device again to see if it works.
-
4
Connect the USB device to your computer and see if your computer recognizes it. If your computer recognizes the device, the problem is with your PlayStation 2. If it doesn't, the problem may be with the device itself.
-
5
Try another USB device in the USB port. If it works, the problem is with the other device and not your PlayStation 2.

Tips & Warnings
USB devices are only compatible with certain PlayStation 2 games.
You can't use a USB flash drive as an alternative to a PlayStation 2 memory card. The only way to save data on your PlayStation 2 is by using a PlayStation 2 memory card (PS2 games only) or original PlayStation memory card (original PlayStation games only).
