How to Delete Music & Movies From My 80 Gig iPod

When it was first released in September 2006, the 80GB--fifth generation--iPod was the highest-capacity to date. But just because your iPod has a lot of space for movies and music doesn't mean you cannot change the content. Deleting music and movies from your 80GB iPod is a fast process that doesn't require any equipment that didn't come with the iPod--aside from a computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your iPod to your computer using the dock connector to USB iPod cable.

    • 2

Open the iTunes program on your computer. ITunes might open automatically when your iPod is connected to your computer, depending on your computer's settings.

    • 3

Click on "Music" or "Movies" below the iPod icon in the "Device" list, which will appear on the left-hand side of iTunes--below your iTunes library--when your computer begins reading your iPod.

    • 4

Highlight the song(s) or movie(s) you want to delete from your iPod by clicking on it.

    • 5

Press the "Delete" key on a Mac keyboard or the "Backspace" key on a PC keyboard to delete the highlighted song or movie. Also, you can click on "Edit" then "Delete" in iTunes.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can delete multiple songs or movies from your iPod at one time by holding down the "Command" or Apple key on a Mac and the "Ctrl" key on a PC and clicking on additional songs.

  • Before you delete music or movies off of your iPod, make sure those items are still in your iTunes library or are stored somewhere else on your computer or other storage device. The iPod will not transfer the items back to your computer when you delete them.
