1
Select a piece of matching vinyl flooring a little larger than the area that is damaged. Place it over the damaged flooring and match the pattern to the area that needs repair.
-
2
Duct tape the repair sheet to the floor so it doesn't slip while you are making the next cuts.

3
Put a new blade in your utility knife and have some spares handy. Using a straightedge to guide the knife, cut through both pieces of vinyl around the damaged area. Hold the utility knife blade exactly perpendicular to the floor, and replace the blade whenever you start to feel it pulling against the vinyl instead of cutting it.

4
Remove the repair vinyl and heat the underlying vinyl with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. Pry the damaged vinyl sheeting away from the subfloor using a putty knife. Remove any remaining adhesive.
-
5
Apply adhesive to the back of the repair sheet of vinyl. Place the new piece of vinyl on the floor and press it into place, starting at the center and working out the air bubbles as you go toward the edges.
-
6
Roll out the patch with a rolling pin. Weight the patch down evenly with heavy books or other objects, and let the adhesive dry for 24 hours.
