How to Use SMART Notebook in PowerPoint

Save

The Smart Board, manufactured by Smart Technologies, is an interactive white board that can bring your PowerPoint presentation to new levels. The Smart Board works in conjunction with the Smart Notebook software to save notes from PowerPoint presentations. The Smart Board has a touch sensitive surface that enhances learning and increases participant involvement during presentations. Participant comments, suggestions, and brainstorming activities can be recorded on the screen. After the presentation, the entire notebook and PowerPoint can be emailed to all participants.

Things You'll Need

  • Smart Board
  • Computer with Smart Board software
  • Projector
  • Click "Start > Programs > SMART Board Software > SMART Board Tools" to start the SMART Board software. You should see the SMART Board software icon in the windows notification area on the bottom right of your screen.

  • Double click the PowerPoint presentation you want to display. This will open it in PowerPoint.

  • Click "View > View Slideshow" in PowerPower to begin showing it on your Smart Board. When you view a PowerPoint presentation on a Smart Board, a navigation toolbar will appear on the board, allowing you to navigate backward and forward through your slides directly on the board itself.

  • Pick up a Smart Pen from the pen tray of the Smart Board to record suggestions and notes from the audience directly onto the board. When you have finished writing, replace the pen in the pen tray.

  • Click the center button of the Navigation Toolbar, then click "Capture to Notebook," which saves all the notes you made on the PowerPoint to a separate file.

  • Click the center button of the Navigation Toolbar, then click "End Show," to end the presentation.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have trouble importing a Smart Notebook file into PowerPoint, save your presentation as a .pdf, then drag the file onto a Smart Notebook page.
